Based in a former Red Cross Hospital in Chorlton. South Manchester, The Edge is a little theatre with big aspirations. Launched in 2011 with award winning actors Julie Hesmondhalgh and Mark Rylance as its Patrons, the 70 seat venue is both a receiving and a producing house, with a particular interest in theatre for children, musical theatre and new writing.
At the Edge we are committed to developing new audiences and we run a comprehensive participatory programme alongside our professional theatre provision. The Edge also houses an established amateur theatre company and a range of ways for our local community to get involved in theatre and the arts.
In 2012 we became a lead partner in Big Imaginations, an Arts Council funded strategic touring consortium; bringing the best in theatre for children and families to the North West.
As theatre makers ourselves we have enjoyed critical success with our most recent productions. Spinach, an entirely sung romantic comedy thriller and Dreaming Under a Different Moon, a musical adventure for families.
The Edge, which also houses rehearsal rooms, workshop spaces and our fabulous cafe The Dressing Room, is fast becoming a unique space to see high quality, small-scale, great theatre from around the country.
