The Old Rep, Birmingham, is an iconic and intimate venue that occupies a unique place in theatre history. Opened in 1913 as Britain’s first purpose-built repertory theatre, it played a central role in the early careers of many of the UK’s most celebrated actors and theatre-makers as the original home of Birmingham Rep.
In September 2015, The Old Rep re-launched as a young people-driven venue in the heart of the city: inviting a new generation to form a relationship with this unique and historic building. Situated next door to New Street Station, the 380 seat auditorium is an inspirational setting for our programme of top quality comedy, drama, dance, musicals and work for families and young people. Equally, the intimate nature of the venue provides a perfect platform to showcase the talent of the artists and communities of our city.
The Old Rep offers extraordinary creative opportunities for the children, young people, artists and communities of Birmingham and beyond, through innovative and collaborative partnerships. Within five years, The Old Rep aims to be recognised as a flagship for the development of the future arts workforce. The Old Rep is managed and operated by Birmingham Ormiston Academy, a regional independent state-funded 14-19 institution, widely acknowledged as a national centre of excellence for training in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts.
