I Can't Breath

Protocol Dance Company (UK) an extract of I Can’t Breathe at Breakin' Convention 2016 London at Sadler's Wells. Developed at Breakin' Convention's Back to the Lab 2016 professional development course.

The piece in development takes an in-depth and uncompromising look at racism in our society. From the epidemic of black killings by police officers in America to the reality of being a young black man living in London... the piece explores the causes of institutional racism, and the effects it has on our society, organisations and our minds, all through the prism of a game.

Initially developed as part of hip-hop theatre organisation 'Breakin' Convention's' Back To The Lab choreographic course, Lanre Malaolu is currently a recipient of the East London Dance 'Ideas fund' award, who are partnering/mentoring me during the delivery of the R&D. Supporting award partners include: Sadler's Wells, English National Ballet and Rich Mix.

Lanra Malaolu was a member of the Old Vic 12 2015-16
