Two ambitious young people with one dream: to make the arts for everyone. Resident Young Company at Hackney Showroom.
The S&K Project formed as we wanted to change perceptions of young people in performing arts; we are striving to revolutionise the performing arts industry, no matter how long it takes.
As young, black male artists we are frustrated that people like us face being typecast into roles that don’t necessarily reflect our culture or community. We plan to challenge this by making the arts as inclusive as possible, creating a more well-rounded opinion of society and the people within it.
One step at a time, we aim to reduce the injustices in the arts and create a level playing field for anyone who wants to be involved in the arts and media. Under the name The S&K Project, we want to create imaginative, innovative and informative new plays that benefit everyone involved. We've done this since September 2014 and have since created four plays, delivered creative workshops and produced successful events across London and, in the future, we would aim to bring this across the country, spreading the message of how the arts really can be for everyone. We aim to create and prolong conversations from all aspects of our work, provoking minds and stimulating change.
The S&K Project is now permanently based at Hackney Showroom, a large warehouse/performance space with an exceptional cultural offer: to present and produce outstanding theatre. We have been made their Resident Young Company where we plan to curate events, produce even more theatre and work with young people in the local area, further fulfilling our primary goal of making the arts for everyone. We are thankful for all of their support so far and we are excited to continue this collaborative journey!
