Making Theatre that celebrates the Epic in the Everyday

Standing On The Shoulders of Giants is a theatre company built on two passionate beliefs: the enduring relevance of the classics, and the creative energy to be found in our diverse communities.

We bring classic stories up to date – to re-think them in an original piece of theatre, performed by professional actors, but inspired by, and relevant to specific community groups.   Inclusivity and creativity are central to everything we do:  our audiences are also our contributors

Artistic Director and Writer - Jennie Buckman started Giants after leaving the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) in 2007 where she had taught acting for over 20 years, latterly as the Head of Acting. She also worked at the National Theatre, RSC, Guildhall School of Speech and Drama, and many other drama schools. Giants method of working was learned whilst Jennie was a director with Common Stock Theatre in the 1980’s. Jennie is also an established playwright.  She has written for theatre, TV, Rada, and has had many plays produced by BBC radio 4  as well as countless episodes of ‘Westway’ for BBC World Service (www.jenniebuckman.com). For Giants Theatre Jennie has written Pandora, SNAFU, Flaming Damp, and is currently working on our latest project Piece of Silk. Jennie is represented by Laura Rourke at Independent Talent.

Administrator & Associate Director - Tania Azevedo is a performer as well as a director, having graduated from Mountview Academy Theatre Arts in Musical Theatre (BA Hons) in 2012.  Since graduating she directed, devised and performed in the new musical “The Picture House” that went on to win the “Scottish Daily Mail Edinburgh Festival Fringe Drama Award 2012” with her company, Play Pen Productions. She's been a part of the King's Head Trainee Director's Program and has worked as Assistant Artistic Director for The Woolwich Grand Theatre. She's recently finished directing "Oedipus Renewed" and "Scenes from Hello Again" with Play Pen Productions.

Producer - Alex Murphy is a producer who completed his Bachelors degree in Theatre and Media from UWE, Bristol before graduating with a Masters degree in Theatre from Royal Holloway, University of London. He has produced for Needless Alley Collective, Caligula's Alibi and Colab Theatre. His work has been shown at: The Pleasance, BAC, Summerhall, Leicester Festival, Brighton Dome, Live at LICA, Camden Peoples Theatre, VAULT Festival, High Tide Festival and Hoxton Gallery. He has also produced Hourglass Festival at the Battersea Arts Centre as part of the young producers.
