Tayo Aluko & Friends is the trading name of the company set up by Tayo Aluko to produce and promote performing arts that present the History and Life of Sons and Daughters of Africa in a positive light. The most successful and longest running production by TAAF to date is the multi-award winning Call Mr. Robeson – a one man play about the life of Paul Robeson – written and performed by Tayo Aluko across the globe, literally, since 2008.
Other projects include The Amber Chronicles – short plays on African History, Concerts and Talks, The Paul Robeson Art Is a Weapon Festival in London’s West End in October 2013, which saw performers and speakers from as far as Canada and South Africa present work to London audiences on themes of resistance, peace activism and humour.
In 2014, The Maltings commissioned Tayo Aluko to create a tribute to Langston Hughes for performance with a jazz band, and the resulting piece, What Happens? Is the subject of this application.
Future goals include a repeat of the Festival in 2016, national and international tours of What Happens? And the touring of a new play by and featuring Tayo Aluko.
