Complicité - Open Workshops autumn 2017

1 November 2017

Mon 27 Nov - Fri1 Dec 2017 Rosa Room, ND2, 1 Triton Square, London, NW1 3HG

The Puppet, the Ensemble and Me led by Josie Daxter, 1000 – 1700 daily, £500

This Complicite workshop looks at bringing inanimate objects to life while at the same time exploring the essence of ensemble work and physical storytelling. Participants will use their story telling skills to breathe life into puppets, the space between the puppeteers and the physical world they are transforming, finding a shared and visceral sense of play.

Using a mix of manufactured and homemade puppets, the group will improvise and devise to create stories and scenes as an ensemble. Armed with a child-like sense of serious make believe we will explore humour, irreverence, pathos and fantasy, through a shared specificity of gesture, tension, suspense, rhythm and breath.

Josie Daxter trained at Ecole Philippe Gaulier, Ecole Jacques Lecoq and East 15. She is the revival director of Simon McBurney's The Magic Flute and A Dog's Heart and Assistant Director of A Rake's Progress. As an actor, Josie performed
in Complicités The Master and Margarita and A Dog’s Heart. Other credits include: The Trial of Ubu (Kate Mitchell), Mission Drift (The Team), A Woman Killed with Kindness (Katie Mitchell, National Theatre), Frankenstein (Danny Boyle, National Theatre), My Mother Said I Never Should (Dukes), 1984, Low Life and An Odde Angel (Blind Summit

Theatre), His Dark Materials (Birmingham Rep/West Yorkshire Playhouse), Antigone at Hell’s Mouth (Kneehigh/Soho Theatre).

Josie regularly teaches for Complicité, Blind Summit Theatre, National Youth Theatre, Old Vic Theatre and Ambassadors Theatre Group.
