Open Meeting - The future of theatre for young audiences age 8+
Friday 27 October, 12:30pm-2:00pm
Z-arts, Manchester

Prior to the sharing on 27 October join Z-arts and Big Imaginations for an Open Meeting as part of the Big Imaginations Festival.

It's been recognised nationally that after the age of eight, young theatre audiences begin to decline. As Big Imaginations commission and co-commission three shows for 8+ audiences for the 2017 Festival, we will look at how we can make work that speaks to today’s audiences and reflects the society we live in. The meeting will be a chaired discussion exploring the challenges of developing theatre audiences for children aged 8+ and ask what we as industry professionals can do to further engage and give agency to children in this age group and encourage them to become theatre goers.

The panel will include;

  • Sue Buckmaster – Artistic Director, Theatre Rites
  • Sarah Punshon – Artistic Director, The Dukes, Lancaster and One Tenth Human
  • Kaya Stanley-Money – Producer, China Plate

The meeting will be chaired by;

  • Anna Hassan – Relationship Manager, Engagement and Audiences (North) – Arts Council England
  • Penny Thompson – Relationship Manager, Museums / Children, Young People and Learning – Arts Council Englan
