Assistant Trainee Director recruitment for West Yorkshire Playhouse

10 April 2017

West Yorkshire Playhouse are looking for our next Assistant Trainee Director.

The position, delivered in partnership with the JMK Trust and generously funded by the Leverhulme Trust, is for candidates from groups who are under-represented in theatre, with a focus on candidates who are BAME (Black, Asian or from an ethnic minority).

This is a paid opportunity to experience the complete arc of a professional rehearsal process, from the first read-through to opening night. This role will support the production’s Director and Assistant Director as required, observing rehearsals, helping with research and supporting any related outreach activity.

The contract includes two projects – one is an exciting opportunity to work on Leeds-based playwright Zodwa Nyoni’s brand new play, Ode to Leeds. And, following this, to assist directors from our award-winning Creative Engagement department to help create a new piece of theatre with members of our local community.

To be considered for this role you must be – Black, Asian or from an ethnic minority, over 18, born, raised or living in Yorkshire, out of education and able to commit to the full-time demands of the role and have some experience as a theatre director, assistant director or in creating live performance.

If you are interested in this opportunity (or know people who might be), please send (or get them to send) a short email/letter (no more than 250 words) OR a short video (3 minutes max), introducing themselves, outlining any theatre or live performance experience they have, and explaining why this would be an opportunity they’d be passionate about doing, along with a cv.
