Eclipse Theatre Company is at the vanguard of delivering diverse programming in regional theatres. It is our mission to use the Black British experience to create new work that will enrich the cannon of British Theatre.
Led by Artistic Director Dawn Walton, Eclipse is a National Portfolio Funded Organisation with Arts Council England. We are the only Black-led NPO who deliver an annual middle scale tour to regional theatres. Most recently, Eclipse have been awarded Sustained Theatre funding from
Arts Council England.
This funding will allow us to work in partnership with a Consortia of 11 organisations to support and develop Black theatre professionals working in the North. We will deliver a programme supporting over 1200 black artists in the North and generating long-term career sustainability for black artists by increasing access to local, national and international networks and opportunities. This will include the development of 6 ‘Enablers’ - Black arts professionals - who will support artists to generate long-term career sustainability in the independent sector.
This is a ground-breaking new programme that will see those who participate work on a local, national and international level. Alongside our core touring work and Sustained Theatre, we have also delivered projects such 10by10 – a series of 10 short film dramas for the digital arts platform The Space with the BBC, and the ongoing Arts Council England funded ‘Exceptional Award’ project Revolution Mix.
Revolution Mix is a three-year equality initiative designed to act as a catalyst for permanent change in British Theatre – spearheading the largest ever national delivery of Black British stories in regional theatres. It is running from 2015 – 2018 with the aim of provoking major change, tackling inequality and creating a lasting legacy within the UK’s theatrical landscape – both on stage and off.
Eclipse are working with with 12 Partner Venues and 14 writers to develop and produce an ambitious body of work which will include 9 touring productions, film and a series of radio dramas. The Revolution Mix Partner Venues include: Belgrade Coventry, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Hull Truck, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, National Theatre New Work Department, Northern Stage, Royal Court Theatre, Royal Exchange Manchester, Salisbury Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres and West Yorkshire Playhouse.
